I am a born and raised Tejana from the Rio Grande Valley. A love of reading and a lack of representation of Latina/o characters in literature have influenced my education and research, leading me to focus on US Latina/o literature, particularly children and young adult literature.

Currently I am a Ph.D. Candidate and Teaching Fellow at the University of Houston. I have previously been a part of the editorial board of Arte Público Press and a Research Fellow with the Recovering the US Hispanic Literary Heritage program.
